TAPE CONTENTS: |
| ITEM (1): STUDYING THE WINDS OF CHANGE - a series of comparison images showing changes in particular areas over a period of time.
a) Rondonia, Brazil - Landsat images taken 6/75, 8/86, and 6/92, showing the deforestation of tropical rain forests. Land and urban areas appear light blue, healthy vegetation appears in red.
b) Kuwait - Images illustrate the extent of the oil fires in Kuwait. They were taken 8/31/90, 2/23/91, and 11/14/91. The second image shows the city obscured by smoke. The third image was acquired after the fires had been extinguished.
c) Great Salt Lake, Utah - Images taken 9/72 and 8/88. They show the dramatic increase in the surface area of the lake, which caused millions of dollars in damage due to flooding of highways, homes, wildlife refuges, and railways near the lake.
d) Upper Mississippi River Basin - These images were taken 9/92, 9/93, and 10/93. A series of heavy summer rains and wet periods during the fall and spring caused the Missouri River to flood, reaching its peak on 9/27/93.
